WILSON, N.C. – The Barton men's lacrosse team (9-6) opened the 2022 Conference Carolinas Championship with a 21-12 victory over Chowan (6-8) Tuesday afternoon at Electric Supply Company Field and Truist Stadium. The Bulldogs were the fourth seed while the Hawks were seeded fifth.

Mark Crawford (Chesapeake Beach, Md.) totaled nine points – five points and four assists – and sophomore attacker
Mason Chaney (Dunkirk, Md.) added four scores as the Bulldogs beat the Hawks for the second time in 10 days. Chaney has a team-leading 45 goals on the year.
Barton held a 9-8 advantage at halftime before breaking the contest open with a seven-goal third period. The Bulldogs held edges in both shots taken (51-42) and ground balls (47-34) in the victory as well.
Chowan was led by Eric George (Stony Plain, Alberta, CANADA) and Jaxon Martin (Jarvis, Ontario, CANADA) with four goals each in the losing effort. Martin and George rank first and second in the league in goals scored with 59 and 54, respectively.

Giuseppe Brown (Gorham, Maine) played the first half and earned the victory after stopping four shots. Chowan goalkeeper, Alec Rodopoulos (Livonia, Mich.), suffered the loss despite 17 saves on the day.
Barton remains at home to host top-seeded Belmont Abbey (8-5) in the league tournament semifinals on Friday afternoon beginning at 4:00 p.m.
