WILSON, N.C. – The Barton women's lacrosse team (7-6, 5-1) scored an easy 15-3 victory over Southern Wesleyan (6-8, 4-3) Saturday afternoon in a Conference Carolinas contest at Truist Stadium and Electric Supply Company Field.
The Bulldogs were led by freshman midfielder
Renee Perkins (Apex, N.C.) and freshman attacker
Samantha Serio (Long Island, N.Y.) with three goals each as the home team raced to an 8-0 advantage in the second period and never looked back in the victory.
Barton freshman attacker
Kate Matuza (Hampstead, N.C.) added two goals and a match-high seven assists – pushing her season assist total to a league-high 31 – as the Bulldogs held considerable advantages in both shots taken (33-6) and ground balls (30-12) on the day.
Southern Wesleyan's Tabitha Beecher (Roanoke, Va.) had a pair of goals to lead the visitors. In goal, Barton freshman
Savannah Graves (Chesapeake Beach, Md.) played the first half and was credited with the win while Southern Wesleyan's Kaeleigh McDaniel (Saint Augustine, Fla.) took the loss despite 12 saves on the afternoon.
Barton remains at home to take on Lees-McRae next Saturday, April 9, at 11:00 a.m., in a league contest while Southern Wesleyan hosts Belmont Abbey next Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
