BRISTOL, Tenn. – Barton (22-19, 12-11) and King (17-17, 10-12) split a Conference Carolinas doubleheader Friday afternoon at the Tornado Complex. The Bulldogs won the first game by a 7-3 score while the Tornado prevailed in the nightcap, 7-5, to split the doubleheader.
Game One – Barton 7, King 3
Barton senior
Alex Hart (Raleigh, N.C.) improved to 7-2 on the season with his sixth complete game of the year. Hart scattered eight hits and struck out five batters for his third straight league victory.
Barton senior first baseman
Colby Warren (Roanoke Rapids, N.C.) and junior outfielder
Ryan McIsaac (Millville, N.J.) both finished with a pair of hits and an RBI in the victory. The Bulldogs plated a pair of runs in the top of the first inning and remained ahead the rest of the way.
For King, Junior Renwick (Havelock, N.C.) hit a solo home run while Ray Berry (Chilhowie, Va.) fell to 4-2 after suffering the loss.
Game Two – King 7, Barton 5
Trailing by a 3-1 score, the Tornado took the lead for good with a five-run fifth frame highlighted by the game-winning, RBI single from Renwick. Robbie Scott (Longwood, Va.) led the home team with three hits and two runs batted in and Jakob Brown (Dallas, Ga.) (3-4) went the distance for the victory for King.
For the second straight game, McIsaac had a pair of hits and an RBI – a run-scoring triple – while Barton senior
Nate McKenrick (Lake City, Pa.) (0-2) suffered the loss in relief.
Barton and King wrap up the league weekend series with a single game on Saturday beginning at 12:30 p.m.
