King takes final game of Conference Carolinas baseball weekend series over Barton, 7-4

BRISTOL, Tenn. – The Barton baseball team (22-20, 12-12) came up short to King (18-17, 11-12), 7-4, in the final game of a Conference Carolinas weekend series Saturday afternoon at the Tornado Complex.

The Tornado broke a one-all tie with a four-run third frame highlighted by the game-winning RBI single from Junior Renwick (Havelock, N.C.).  Renwick finished the contest with three hits and two runs batted in while Deric Graham (Bristol, Tenn.) drove in three runs as King took two of three from Barton to take the series.

Barton senior outfielder Colby Warren (Roanoke Rapids, N.C.) added three hits and an RBI and sophomore outfielder Raymond Paniagua (Blue Springs, Mo.) hit a solo home run but the visitors suffered their second straight setback.

On the mound, King's Drew Moore (Virginia Beach, Va.) improved to 6-2 on the season after allowing just one earned run over six innings of work while Nic Blankenship (Collierville, Tenn.) pitched a scoreless ninth inning for his fifth save of the year.  Barton junior Brett Widerman (Wilmington, N.C.) fell to 2-2 after taking the loss.

Barton hosts rival Mount Olive in a league doubleheader on Saturday at Noon at Nixon Field while King hosts Tusculum on Tuesday starting at 3:30 p.m.
