MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Barton women's lacrosse team (9-6, 7-1) remained in the thick of the Conference Carolinas Regular Season race with an 18-8 victory over Chowan (3-8, 2-5) Wednesday afternoon at the Hawks Complex.

Kate Matuza (Hampstead, N.C.), the current league freshman of the month, led the way with four goals and a pair of assists as the Bulldogs won their third straight game and remained a half-game behind Mount Olive in the conference standings. Matuza leads the team in assists (34) and total points (62) so far this season.
Matuza scored three straight times in the opening stanza as the Bulldogs raced to a 5-1 lead after one period of play and never looked back. Barton freshman midfielder
Renee Perkins (Apex, N.C.) and sophomore midfielder
Jayden Smith (Winter Garden, Fla.) added three goals each for the visitors, who held a 32-15 advantage in shots taken and forced the Hawks into 27 turnovers.

Savannah Graves (Chesapeake Beach, Md.) earned the victory after stopping eight shots while Chowan's Patricia Meador (Fredericksburg, Va.) suffered the loss in goal. Meador made five saves on the day. Chowan was led on offense by Charity Brown (Birmingham, Ala.) and Victoria Brown (Macungie, Pa.) with two goals and one assist each.
Barton next travels to Mount Olive, N.C., to take rival Mount Olive in a league showdown on Saturday, April 23, at Noon while Chowan hits the road to face North Greenville on Saturday in Tigerville, S.C., on Saturday beginning at Noon.
