MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – The Barton women's lacrosse team (9-7, 7-2) was dealt a 21-5 loss to rival Mount Olive (12-5, 9-0) in a Conference Carolinas showdown and regular season finale Saturday at the Ray McDonald, Sr., Complex.
The Trojans showed tremendous balance with six players scoring two goals as the home team clinched the league regular season championship.
Mount Olive's Meaghan Michaud (Derry, N.H.) finished with two goals and two assists as the Trojans jumped out to an 11-1 advantage early in the second period and never looked back. Mount Olive also ran its winning streak to 25 in conference regular season contests dating back to 2019.
Barton was led by sophomore attacker
Sydney Quinn (Fuquay-Varina, N.C.) with two goals and the Bulldogs saw their three-game winning streak come to an end. Quinn leads the team with 38 scores this year.
In goal, Mount Olive's Claire Hagen (Prior Lake, Minn.) earned the win after stopping six shots in three quarters of play while Barton freshman
Savannah Graves (Chesapeake Beach, Md.) suffered the loss despite six saves of her own. The Trojans held advantages in both shots taken (40-15) and ground balls (16-8) in the win as well.
Barton, the third seed in the 2022 Conference Carolinas Women's Lacrosse Championship, will face sixth-seeded Southern Wesleyan (6-11) in the quarterfinal round on Monday at Truist Stadium and Electric Supply Company Field beginning at 2:00 p.m.
Mount Olive is the top seed and will not play until the league tournament semifinals on Thursday, April 28, on the campus of North Greenville University in Tigerville, S.C.
