WILSON, N.C. – The Barton men's lacrosse team (3-3) couldn't slow down Saint Leo (3-1) in a 20-8 setback Friday afternoon in an NCAA Division II game at Electric Supply Company Field and Truist Stadium.
The Lions' Justin Williams (Clermont, Fla.) scored five goals and Guy Bistrow (Jacksonville, Fla.) added four scores while both players dished out three assists as Saint Leo picked up its third straight victory.
Barton was paced by sophomore attacker
Matt Calleri (Holly Springs, N.C.) with four goals and sophomore midfielder
J.J. Mitchell (Winston-Salem, N.C.) with three scores in the losing effort. Calleri has a team-leading 14 goals on the season.
The Lions jumped out to a 3-0 advantage early in the first quarter and never looked back. Saint Leo held sizable advantages in both shots taken (58-30) and ground balls (40-31) on the day.
In goal, Saint Leo's Evan Hock (Columbia, Md.) earned the win after stopping 13 shots on the day while Barton senior
Trevor Witholt (Murrieta, Calif.) suffered the loss despite 18 saves.
Barton remains at home to take on Davis & Elkins on Wednesday beginning at 7:00 p.m., at Truist Stadium while Saint Leo hosts Flagler on Saturday, March 12, at 1:00 p.m.
