BELMONT, N.C. – The Barton women's lacrosse team (6-6, 4-1) was handed its first Conference Carolinas loss of the year, 18-7 to Belmont Abbey (6-5, 4-1) Wednesday night at Alumni Field.
The Crusaders' Riley D'Andrea (Farmingdale, N.Y.) led the way by scoring six times and Olivia Carlino (Campbell, Calif.) finished with five goals and three assists as Belmont Abbey jumped out to a 6-0 advantage in the second period and never looked back.
Seven different players scored for the Bulldogs including sophomore attacker
Sydney Quinn (Fuquay-Varina, N.C.) and freshman midfielder
Kate Matuza (Hampstead, N.C.), who rank first and second in goals scored on the season for Barton with 31 and 22, respectively.
The Crusaders held a 32-15 edge in shots taken while Michelle Guppy (Hebron, Conn.) earned the win in goal for Belmont Abbey after stopping five shots. Barton freshman goalkeeper

Avery Woodcock (Wilmington, N.C.) scored her 18th goal of the year as well for the Bulldogs, which ranks third on the squad.
Barton looks to rebound on Saturday at Noon when the Bulldogs host Southern Wesleyan in a league match at Truist Stadium and Electric Supply Company Field while Belmont Abbey travels to Franklin Springs, Ga., to take on Emmanuel on Saturday beginning at Noon as well.
