WILSON, N.C. – The Barton men's lacrosse team (5-5, 0-2) put on a furious rally but fell short to North Greenville (6-5, 2-0), 19-15, Saturday afternoon at Electric Supply Company Field and Truist Stadium in Conference Carolinas action.
The Crusaders' Thomas Cecere (Grand Island, N.Y.) finished with a game-high six goals as North Greenville saw a 12-2 lead shrink to three scores, but the visitors were able to stabilize in the end to prevail.
Barton was led by sophomore attacker
Matt Calleri (Holly Springs, N.C.) with five goals while sophomore midfielders
J.J. Mitchell (Winston-Salem, N.C.) and
Logan Wheeler (Fuquay-Varina, N.C.) added three scores each in the losing effort. Calleri has a team-leading 27 goals on the year.
The Bulldogs cut the deficit to 16-13 at the 8:13 mark of the fourth period on a goal by Mitchell – the last of four straight scores by Barton – but North Greenville recovered and found the back of the net the next two times on its way to the win.

Giuseppe Brown (Gorham, Maine) made 19 saves despite the loss. Barton junior midfielder
Mark Crawford (Chesapeake Beach, Md.) total seven points – two goals and five assists – despite the setback. North Greenville held a 55-45 edge in shots taken and stayed unbeaten in league play.
Barton hits the road to take on Lees-McRae on Saturday, April 2, at 3:00 p.m., in league action while North Greenville returns home to take on Emmanuel on Wednesday beginning at 7:00 p.m.
