Barton baseball takes two from Barry, 7-6 and 12-6, Saturday on the road

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – The Barton baseball team (15-15) snapped a six-game losing streak with a doubleheader sweep of Barry (12-18), 7-6 and 12-6, Saturday afternoon at Feinbloom Field.

Game One – Barton 7, Barry 6
Barton senior second baseman Dylan Scaranda (Galloway, N.J.) broke a four-all tie with the game-winning solo home run in the top of the seventh inning and finished with three hits as the Bulldogs held on for the win.

Barton senior Jared Davis (Poquoson, Va.) earned the win and improved to 4-2 on the year while sophomore Tanner Halvorson (Eau Claire, Wis.) registered the final out with runners and second and third for his second save of the year.

Barry's Ihosvany Castaneda (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) hit a two-run home run and finished with three runs batted in while Mike Reagan (Safety Harbor, Fla.) fell to 2-3 after suffering the loss in relief.

Game Two – Barton 12, Barry 6
The Bulldogs scored six runs in both the second and fifth innings on their way to the doubleheader sweep.

Barton junior outfielder Ryan McIsaac (Millville, N.J.) highlighted the second frame with a bases-clearing double and senior first baseman Colby Warren (Roanoke Rapids, N.C.) capped off the fifth inning with a two-run home run.

Senior shortstop Andres Machado (Coral Gables, Fla.) added three runs batted in while junior Brett Widerman (Wilmington, N.C.) improved to 2-1 on the season after allowing just one run on seven innings of relief with five strikeouts for the Bulldogs.

The Buccaneers' Joe Stella (Pittston, Pa.) and Matthew Menendez (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) both hit home runs in the losing effort and Anthony Bennetti (Tampa, Fla.) fell to 0-6 after being tagged with the setback.

Barton returns home to take on Virginia State on Tuesday afternoon beginning at 3:00 p.m., while Barry faces Nova Southeastern in Davie, Fla., at 6:00 p.m.
