Barton women’s lacrosse can’t catch Wilmington (Delaware), 17-10

WILSON, N.C. – The Barton women's lacrosse team (1-4) couldn't slow up Wilmington (Del.) (3-0) in a 17-10 setback Wednesday evening in an NCAA Division II match at Truist Stadium and Electric Supply Company Field.

Maddie Day (New Park, Pa.) and Campbell Heller (Lancaster, Pa.) both scored five goals for the Wildcats, who remained unbeaten on the year.

Trailing by a 5-3 score late in the first quarter, Wilmington reeled off five straight goals to take the lead for good.  Day broke a five-all tie with the game-winner just 15 seconds into the second quarter.

Barton was led by freshman attacker Avery Woodcock (Wilmington, N.C.) with three goals while sophomore attacker Sydney Quinn (Fuquay-Varina, N.C.) added two scores in the losing effort.  Quinn now has a team-leading 14 goals on the year.

Wilmington held the edge in shots taken (33-27) while goalkeeper Katie Vindigni (Montvale, N.J.) played the final three quarters and made 11 saves on the night.  Barton freshman Olivia LaValle (Peabody, Mass.) suffered the loss despite 12 stops in goal.

Barton remains at home to host North Greenville in the Conference Carolinas opener on Saturday at 11:00 a.m., while Wilmington (Del.) hosts Saint Thomas Aquinas on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
