BELMONT, N.C. – The Barton men's lacrosse team (5-4, 0-1) came back from a six-goal deficit to tie the contest but eventually fell to Belmont Abbey (3-4, 1-0), 9-8, Saturday afternoon in a Conference Carolinas game at Alumni Field.
The Crusaders' Austin Hasen (Brampton, Ontario, CANADA) scored a team-high three goals including the game-winner with 1:19 left in the contest as Belmont Abbey nearly blew the game after jumping out to a 6-0 advantage in the first period.

Mason Chaney (Dunkirk, Md.) led the Bulldogs with four goals in the losing effort. Senior attacker
Seth Mandryk (Stonewall, Manitoba, CANADA) was able to tie the game at eight with a goal with 3:15 remaining for the Bulldogs but the Crusaders were able to pull it out.
Belmont Abbey goalkeeper Thomas Sullivan (North Babylon, N.Y.) made 19 saves including two in the final minute to preserve the win while Barton junior
Giuseppe Brown (Gorham, Maine) suffered the setback despite 21 saves. Both teams took 44 shots while the Crusaders held a 40-39 advantage in ground balls. Barton junior midfielder
Mark Crawford (Chesapeake Beach, Md.) added a goal and two assists as well.
Barton hosts North Greenville for Senior Day on Saturday, March 26, at 12:30 p.m., at Truist Stadium while Belmont Abbey plays Mount Olive next Saturday in Mount Olive, N.C., beginning at Noon.
