Barton men’s lacrosse takes 15-10 road victory over Lander

GREENWOOD, S.C. – The Barton men's lacrosse team (5-3) won its second consecutive game with a 15-10 triumph over Lander (5-3) Saturday afternoon at Emerald High School.

A trio of Bulldogs – sophomore attackers Mason Chaney (Dunkirk, Md.) and Matt Calleri (Holly Springs, N.C.) and junior midfielder Mark Crawford (Chesapeake Beach, Md.) – all scored three times to lead the Bulldogs to the win.

Calleri leads the squad in goals scored with 22 this year while both Chaney and Crawford added a pair of assists as the Bulldogs broke the contest open with four straight scores to start the third period after holding a 7-5 advantage at intermission.  Crawford and Calleri closed the door on Lander with the final two goals of the contest in the last 2:06 of the match.

Lander's Carter Wilcox (Harrisburg, Pa.) led the home team with four goals but the Bearcats suffered their third straight defeat after starting the year with a 5-0 record.

The Bulldogs held slight edges in both shots taken (44-36) and ground balls (53-52) while junior Giuseppe Brown (Gorham, Maine) earned the win in goal after stopping 15 shots in his first start of the year.   Lander goalkeeper Liam Mackay (Georgetown, Ontario, CANADA) suffered the setback.  Mackay made 10 saves after playing the first half.

Barton remains on the road to take on Belmont Abbey next Saturday, March 19, at 2:00 p.m., in Belmont, N.C., in a Conference Carolinas game while Lander hosts Belmont Abbey Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
