WILSON, N.C. – The Barton men's basketball team (10-12, 8-10) downed rival Chowan (7-12, 7-10), 79-72, Tuesday night in a Conference Carolinas game at Wilson Gymnasium.
The Bulldogs received a stellar performance from sophomore forward
Trevon Spencer (Columbia, N.C.), who finished with a triple-double – 17 points, 14 rebounds and 10 blocks – while sophomore guard
Donaven Hairston (Atlanta, Ga.) added a team-high 18 points as Barton swept the season series from Chowan.
Chowan, who saw its four-game winning streak come to an end, was led by Christian Koonce (Charlotte, N.C.) with a game-high 23 points but Hawks came up short in the end.
With the score tied at 69 at the 2:40 mark of the second half, Spencer gave the Bulldogs the lead for good with a free throw which started a 6-0 run to give the Bulldogs the lead for good. Barton sophomore guard
Jett Fortuny (Cary, N.C.) added 17 points and hit four three-pointers and the Bulldogs won at the charity stripe as well, connecting on 19-of-28 attempts.
Chowan hit six of its eight three-pointers before halftime but connected on just four-of-10 free throw attempts after intermission in the setback.
Barton remains at home to take on Converse on Friday night beginning at 7:00 p.m., in a league contest while Chowan hosts Belmont Abbey Friday at 7:00 p.m.
