WILSON, N.C. – The Barton women's basketball team (19-1, 15-1), ranked No. 14 in NCAA Division II, won their 13th straight game in convincing fashion, 95-58 over North Greenville (6-14, 6-10) Saturday afternoon at Wilson Gymnasium in a Conference Carolinas game.
The Bulldogs were led by senior forward
Jami Tham (Arlington, Va.) with a game-high 23 points to go along with 10 rebounds while senior center
Shanika Peterkin (Virginia Beach, Va.) added 21 points and 14 rebounds as the home team swept the season series from the Crusaders and defeated North Greenville for the second time in eight days.
Barton raced out to a 52-26 halftime advantage and never looked back as the Bulldogs remained percentage points above Mount Olive at the top of the league standings.
The Bulldogs held a decisive edge on the boards, 57-28, while senior guard
Akira Wiggins (Knightdale, N.C.) added nine points to reach 1,000 for her career. Wiggins becomes the 15th player in the NCAA era for the Bulldogs to reach the milestone.
North Greenville was led by Haylee Luttrell (Deer Lodge, Tenn.) with 15 points and 11 rebounds in the losing effort. Peterkin also added five blocked shots in the victory.
Barton hits the road to take on Mount Olive in Mount Olive, N.C., on Tuesday, February 8, at 5:00 p.m., while North Greenville hosts Erskine Tuesday at 5:00 p.m.
