WILSON, N.C. – The Barton men's basketball team (9-12, 7-10) saw a 10-point lead late in the second half disappear in a 98-93 overtime setback to North Greenville (6-13, 4-12) Saturday afternoon in a Conference Carolinas game at Wilson Gymnasium.
North Greenville's Kameron Hobbs (Stockbridge, Ga.) led all scorers with 24 points as the Crusaders rallied from an 80-70 deficit with three minutes to go in the second half to force extra time before eventually winning over the Bulldogs.
Hobbs scored with two seconds left to move the game into overtime tied at 82 before the Crusaders scored the first six points in the third period and never trailed the rest of the way.
Sophomore forward
Trevon Spencer (Columbia, N.C.) was one of six players to reach double figures for the Bulldogs with 18 points while shooting eight-for-10 from the field and blocking three shots.
Barton sophomore guard
Donaven Hairston (Atlanta, Ga.) added 17 points and dished out nine assists and the Bulldogs shot 54 percent (36-of-67) from the field despite the loss.
The Crusaders, who saw their six-game losing streak snapped, also received 17 and 16 points from C.J. Jamison (Greer, S.C.) and Draylan Burton (Piedmont, S.C.) while Burton hit the game-winner in overtime. The difference in the game, however, may have come from the free throw line. North Greenville hit 32-of-36 (89 percent) from the charity stripe.
Barton sophomore guard
Jett Fortuny (Cary, N.C.) hit three of the Bulldogs' seven treys in the losing effort. Fortuny finished with 12 points on the day.
Barton remains at home to face Chowan on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m., at Wilson Gymnasium while North Greenville hosts Erskine Tuesday at 7:00 p.m., in league action as well.
