WILSON, N.C. – The Barton women's basketball team (18-1, 14-1), ranked No. 14 in NCAA Division II, made it 12 victories in a row with a 77-57 win over Southern Wesleyan (2-14, 2-11) Friday evening in a Conference Carolinas game at Wilson Gymnasium.

Shanika Peterkin (Virginia Beach, Va.) finished with 18 and 17 points, respectively, while both players grabbed 10 boards for double-doubles as the Bulldogs remained in sole possession of first place in the league standings based on percentage points. Peterkin now has 1,607 points for her career, ranking fifth-best in program history.
Southern Wesleyan, which lost its ninth straight game, was paced by Brittany Mack (Spartanburg, S.C.) with 13 points but the Warriors were forced into 23 turnovers and hit just one-of-11 from behind the three-point line.
Barton held a 36-29 advantage at halftime then scored 27 points in the third quarter to take control. Freshman guard
Aniyah Jones (Grovetown, Ga.) added 12 points and hit a pair of treys for the Bulldogs.
In the next round of Conference Carolinas contests on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m., Barton hosts North Greenville while Southern Wesleyan travels to Mount Olive, N.C., to take on Mount Olive.
