Barton women’s lacrosse falls in tight contest on the road to Young Harris, 18-17

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – The Barton women's lacrosse team (1-3) came up just short in an 18-17 loss to Young Harris (2-6) in an NCAA Division II game Sunday afternoon at the Mountain Lions' Soccer and Lacrosse Complex.

Taylor Greenberg (Johns Creek, Ga.) finished with a game-high five goals for Young Harris, who rallied from a 14-10 deficit to take the victory.  The Mountain Lions' Ruthie Mandell (Marietta, Ga.) broke a 17-all tie with the match-winner with 4:30 left in the contest.

A trio of players – sophomore midfielder Jayden Smith (Winter Garden, Fla.), sophomore attacker Sydney Quinn (Fuquay-Varina HS) and freshman midfielder Kloe Martin (Dracut, Mass.) – all scored three goals for the Bulldogs, who had several chances in the final few minutes but couldn't convert.  Quinn, who leads the team with 12 goals on the year, also tallied a pair of assists in the losing effort.

In goal, Young Harris' Rachel Robb (Birmingham, Ala.) played the final three quarters and registered six saves in earning the win while Barton freshman goalkeeper Olivia LaValle (Peabody, Mass.) suffered the loss despite the 10 stops on the day.

Young Harris held the advantage in both shots taken (36-28) and ground balls (26-22) in the victory.

Barton returns home to take on Wilmington (Del.) on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m., at Truist Stadium while Young Harris travels to Rome, Ga., to face Shorter on Wednesday afternoon beginning at 4:00 p.m.
