CENTRAL, S.C. – The Barton baseball team (9-4, 4-0) put its offense on display in a 20-7 rout of Southern Wesleyan (4-9, 0-4) Friday afternoon in a Conference Carolinas contest at Dr. C. Keith Connor Field.
Barton senior designated hitter
Colby Warren (Roanoke Rapids, N.C.) hit a two-run home run and the Bulldogs scored four runs in the top of the first inning and never looked back in remaining unbeaten in league play.
The Bulldogs added five runs in each of the sixth and eighth innings, respectively, while sophomore outfielder
Raymond Paniagua (Blue Springs, Mo.) added a bases-clearing double in the sixth frame and finished with four runs batted in as the visitors pounded out 23 hits in the victory. Both Warren and Paniagua scored three times and were two of five Bulldogs to tally at least three hits on the day.
Barton senior
Alex Hart (Raleigh, N.C.) improved to 4-0 on the year after pitching into the sixth inning and striking out seven batters in the win. The Bulldogs' arms struck out 14 batters on the day.
Southern Wesleyan's Sean Sutay (Bluffton, S.C.) finished with a pair of hits and two runs batted in while Jacob Standridge (Stockton, Calif.) fell to 1-2 after taking the loss.
The two teams wrap up the weekend league series with a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at Noon in the Warriors' home field.
