SALISBURY, N.C. – The Barton baseball team (8-4) saw its four-game winning streak come to an end with a 6-3 loss to No. 10 Catawba (7-6) Wednesday afternoon at Newman Park in a mid-week contest.
Trailing by a 3-1 score in the bottom of the third inning, the Indians' Luke Spiva (Winston-Salem, N.C.) hit the game-winning three-run home run and Catawba held Barton off the board the rest of the way to a second straight victory.

Carelle Gonzalez (Bridgeton, N.J.) hit a two-run home run in the first inning and sophomore outfielder
Raymond Paniagua (Blue Springs, Mo.) also drove in a run for the visitors despite the loss. Paniagua had two hits on the afternoon as well.
On the mound, Catawba's Connor Garcia (Durham, N.C.) earned the win in relief while Robbie Cowie (Lincolnton, N.C.) pitched a scoreless ninth inning for his second save of the year. Barton junior
Brett Widerman (Wilmington, N.C.) fell to 1-1 after suffering the loss.
Barton remains on the road to take on Southern Wesleyan in a Conference Carolinas contest Friday afternoon at 4:00 p.m., while Catawba visits North Georgia in Dahlonega, Ga., on Friday at 3:00 p.m., in the beginning of a three-game weekend series.
