WILSON, N.C. – The Barton baseball team (5-3) defeated East Stroudsburg (1-2) by a 4-1 score Sunday at Nixon Field to take the weekend series from the Warriors.

Jared Davis (Poquoson, Va.) improved to 2-0 on the year after taking a shutout into the ninth inning on his way to the win. Davis allowed just one run while striking out seven batters and not allowing a walk.

James Holladay (Washington, D.C.) opened the scoring with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the second inning which proved to be the game-winner and senior shortstop
Andres Machado (Coral Gables, Fla.) drove in a pair of runs as the Bulldogs took two of three from the Warriors.
For East Stroudsburg, Anthony Torreullas (New Holland, Pa.) finished with three hits and an RBI but Brent Francisco (Burlington Township, N.J.) (0-1) was the hard-luck loser. Francisco allowed just one earned run over six innings of work to go along with six strikeouts. A pair of Warriors' runs led to two unearned runs for the Bulldogs.
Barton opens Conference Carolinas play next Saturday at home in a doubleheader against Chowan beginning at 11:00 a.m., at Nixon Field while East Stroudsburg takes on Saint Anselm in a doubleheader in Chesterfield, Va.
