WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Barton men's and women's indoor track and field teams opened their 2022-23 seasons at the Winston-Salem College Kick-Off Saturday at the JDL Fast Track.
On the men's side, the Bulldogs had several top-ten finishes including sophomore
Justin Copper (High Point, N.C.), who finished eighth in the 400-meter run (51.82) and ninth in the 200-meter dash (22.95).
The Bulldogs' best place came courtesy of senior
Quante Downey (Rocky Mount, N.C.), who took fifth in the men's pole vault (13'0"). In addition, Barton had a pair of sixth-place finishes as well: senior
Deshawn Owens (Pikeville, N.C.) in the men's 3,000-meter run (8:52.81) and freshman
Chace Pearson (Sicklerville, N.J.) in the men's long jump (22'4").
Finally, freshman
John Daffron (Emerald Isle, N.C.) was ninth in the men's pole vault (12'0") for the Bulldogs.
In the women's competition, Barton had a pair of top-ten finishes in the 200-meter dash: seventh-place (26.62) for sophomore
Aalliya Fox (Sewell, N.J.) and ninth-place (26.80) for junior
Indira Rauf (Washington, D.C.).
The Barton track teams will next compete in the Mondo College Invitational on Saturday, January 14, back at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, N.C.
