WINGATE, N.C. – The Barton men's basketball team (6-5) suffered an 85-71 defeat to the hands of Wingate (7-4) in a non-conference, regional affair Monday afternoon at Cuddy Arena.
Wingate, members of the South Atlantic Conference, spotted Barton a 38-35 advantage at halftime then proceeded to score 50 points after intermission to take the win. Wingate was led by Destin Clark (Indian Land, S.C.) with a game-high 20 points and was one of four players to score in double figures for the home team in the victory.

Marcus Boykin (Clinton, N.C.) with a team-high 18 points while junior guard
Shawn Nelson (Southwest Ranches, Fla.) added 12 points off the bench but were lone two players to notch double figures.
Wingate hit six of its nine three-pointers in the second half and led by as many as 20 points – 78-58 with five minutes remaining in the contest. Barton struggled from behind the three-point line, hitting just four-of-22 treys (18 percent) in the setback.
Barton next competes on Wednesday, January 4, when the Bulldogs travel to Franklin Springs, Ga., to take on Emmanuel Wednesday at 4:00 p.m., while Wingate hosts Mount Olive Saturday, December 31, at 2:00 p.m.
