ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. – The Barton men's basketball team (3-3) saw its three-game winning streak come to an end with an 86-48 loss to Elizabeth City State (3-4) Tuesday evening at the R.L. Vaughan Center.
Three players scored 10 points each for the Vikings – Deandre Wilkins (Edenton, N.C.), Jaden Flournoy (Grand Prairie, Texas) and Amadou Faye (Dakar, SENEGAL) – in the victory as ECSU snapped a two-game losing streak.
Elizabeth City State connected on nine three-pointers and limited Barton to just one-of-15 shooting from behind the arc in the triumph. The Vikings, who jumped out to a 15-0 advantage six minutes into the contest, also forced the Bulldogs into 23 turnovers.
Barton was paced by junior guard
Donaven Hairston (Atlanta, Ga.) and sophomore guard
Marcus Boykin (Clinton, N.C.) with 12 points each. The Bulldogs actually tied the contest at 21-all at the 7:48 mark of the first half but the Vikings closed out the period with 13 straight points for a 47-26 halftime advantage and never looked back.
Barton returns to Conference Carolinas play on Saturday, December 3, when the Bulldogs face North Greenville in Tigerville, S.C., starting at 4:00 p.m., while Elizabeth City State travels to Newberry, S.C., to take on Newberry Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
