WILSON, N.C. – The Barton women's basketball team (1-4, 1-0) opened Conference Carolinas play with a rousing 87-68 victory over Southern Wesleyan (0-5, 0-1) Tuesday evening in the league opener at Wilson Gymnasium.

Erial Owens (Powder Springs, N.C.) led all scorers with 20 points while freshman guard
Lauren Mingo (Clinton, Md.) notched a double-double – 12 points and 12 assists – as the Bulldogs hit 11 treys for the contest in pulling away from the Warriors for the easy win.
Holding a seven-point advantage at halftime (37-30), the Bulldogs broke the open the contest in the third period by outscoring the Warriors by a 33-15 margin to take the win. Barton – which led by as many as 26 points – also shot 50 percent for the game (37-of-75) and had four players in double figures in the victory.
Southern Wesleyan was led by Brittany Mack (Spartanburg, S.C.) with 19 points in the losing effort. Barton junior guard
Lauren Walker (Charlotte, N.C.) added 16 points for the home team, who won despite shooting just two free throws the entire contest.
Barton hits the road to take on Shaw on Tuesday, November 29, at 6:00 p.m., in Raleigh, N.C., while Southern Wesleyan hosts Anderson on Saturday beginning at 2:00 p.m.
