WILSON, N.C. – The Barton men's basketball team (3-2, 1-0) opened the Conference Carolinas portion of its schedule with a dominant win over Southern Wesleyan (0-5, 0-1), 111-77, Tuesday evening at Wilson Gymnasium.
The Bulldogs, with their most points in nearly four years, were led by senior forward
Trevon Spencer (Columbia, N.C.) with game-high 28 points to go along with seven rebounds and six blocked shots and was one of five players to score in double figures in the win.
Barton, winners of three straight contests, rolled to a 59-35 halftime advantage and never looked back. Junior guard
Donaven Hairston (Atlanta, Ga.) added 16 points and sophomore guard
Marcus Boykin (Clinton, N.C.) notched a double-double – 13 points and 10 assists – as the Bulldogs led by as many as 44 points – 107-63 – in the dominant victory.
Jamel Edmonson (Charleston, S.C.) led the Warriors with 18 points and was one of four players for Southern Wesleyan to score in double figures but the visitors continued to search for their first victory of the season.
Barton connected on 15 three-pointers and forced Southern Wesleyan into 22 turnovers on the night. The Bulldogs finished the game shooting 54 percent (41-of-76) from the field as well. Barton scored its most points in a game since a 123-91 triumph over Lees-McRae on January 2, 2019, at home.
Barton travels to Elizabeth City, N.C., to take on Elizabeth City State on Tuesday, November 29, at 7:30 p.m., while Southern Wesleyan hosts USC Aiken on Saturday beginning at 4:00 p.m.
