WILSON, N.C. – The Barton women's volleyball team (8-16, 7-10) saw its Senior Night take a hit with a 3-1 setback to rival Mount Olive (22-8, 15-2) Tuesday evening at Wilson Gymnasium in a Conference Carolinas contest.
The Trojans, winners of 10 straight matches, downed the Bulldogs by scores of 19-25, 25-21, 25-13 and 25-13 and swept the season series from the Bulldogs.
Mount Olive, which claimed a share of the Conference Carolinas East Division Championship, was led by Amara Eziakonwa (Tampa, Fla.) with 17 kills while Neza Pec (Stranice, SLOVENIA) added 10 kills and 11 digs in the victory. The visitors also notched nine service aces in the win.
Barton was led by senior outside hitter
Allison Gambill (Taylorsville, N.C.) with a match-high 18 kills to go along with 16 digs for a monster double-double while sophomore libero
Brooke Clute (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) added a team-high 22 digs in the losing effort.
Barton will be the fourth seed in the 2022 Conference Carolinas Women's Volleyball Championship (East Division side) and will take on fifth-seeded Chowan (9-19) in the opening round of the tournament Saturday at 2:30 p.m., in Florence, S.C., on the campus of Francis Marion University. Mount Olive is the second seed in the East Division and will receive a bye to the quarterfinals and will next compete on Friday, November 11, at 7:30 p.m., in Bristol, Tenn., at King University.
