FLORENCE, S.C. – The Barton women's volleyball team (8-17) saw its season come to an end with a close, 3-2 loss to Chowan (10-19) in the opening round of the 2022 Conference Carolinas Championship Saturday afternoon at the Smith University Center on the campus of Francis Marion University.
The Hawks, the fifth seed in the East Division bracket of the tournament, downed the Bulldogs by scores of 25-22, 29-27, 14-25, 23-25 and 15-12. Chowan will face third-seeded Francis Marion (15-11) later in the day. Barton was the fourth seed in the conference championship.
Chowan, which beat Barton for the third time this year, was led by Anixa Rosa-Martinez (San Lorenzo, PUERTO RICO) with 16 kills while Diana Rodriguez (Tijuana, MEXICO) added 45 digs in the victory.

Allison Gambill (Taylorsville, N.C.) came through with another big double-double – 23 kills and 20 digs – while sophomore middle blocker
Sarah Burton (Aynor, S.C.) added 19 kills and six blocks in the setback.
Gambill finished her career with 1,085 kills while junior setter
Madison Greene (Angier, N.C.) tallied a double-double as well – 35 assists and 12 digs – for the Bulldogs, who tried to rally from two sets down but came up just short.
