WILSON, N.C. – The Barton men's soccer team (4-6-2, 3-3-2) gave up a late goal to Lees-McRae (5-2-5, 3-1-3) and settled for a 1-1 tie in Conference Carolinas action Saturday afternoon at the Bulldogs Athletic Complex.
The Bulldogs, who tied their second straight opponent, received their goal from graduate student
Peer Brendler (Gifhorn, GERMANY) at the 27:03 mark of the first half after lobbing a shot over the keeper from the right side. The goal was Brendler's team-tying fourth of the season.
Lees-McRae's Lane Koch (Rome, Ga.) tied the score with just under seven minutes to go before the end of regulation. Koch scored from the top of the box off a deflection. The Bobcats also tied their second consecutive opponent.
Barton held a 16-10 advantage in shots taken while freshman goalkeeper
Steingrimur Gunnarsson (Grenivek, ICELAND) tallied three stops for the Bulldogs. The Bobcats' keeper, Joshua Garvilla (St. Charles, Mo.), finished with seven saves for the visitors.
Barton remains at home to face rival Chowan on Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m., at Truist Stadium and Electric Supply Company Field in a conference contest while Lees-McRae hosts King (Tenn.) on Wednesday beginning at 7:30 p.m.
