WILSON, N.C. – The Barton women's volleyball team (7-14, 6-8) rallied from two sets down to beat Belmont Abbey (6-24, 3-12), 3-2, in a Conference Carolinas thriller Tuesday night at Wilson Gymnasium.
The Bulldogs downed the Crusaders by scores of 24-26, 23-25, 25-15, 25-22 and 15-13 on their way to their third straight victory.
Barton was led by sophomore right side hitter
Lily Haaga (Herriman, Utah) with a season-high 20 kills while senior outside hitter
Allison Gambill (Taylorsville, N.C.) added a monster double-double – 17 kills and 24 digs – as the Bulldogs swept the season series from the Crusaders.
Junior setter
Madison Greene (Angier, N.C.) also came through with a double-double – 34 assists and 12 digs – for the Bulldogs, who also totaled eight service aces and 11 blocks in the victory.
Belmont Abbey was led by Jenna McCullough (Lexington, N.C.) with 18 kills in the losing effort.
Barton hits the road this Friday to take on Erskine in a Conference Carolinas match in Due West, S.C., beginning at 7:00 p.m., while Belmont Abbey travels to Pembroke, N.C., to play UNC Pembroke Friday at 6:00 p.m.
