WILSON, N.C. – The Barton men's soccer team (6-6-4, 4-3-4) forced a one-all tie with North Greenville (8-5-3, 6-2-3) Saturday afternoon at Electric Supply Company Field and Truist Stadium on Senior Day in a Conference Carolinas contest.
The Crusaders scored first inside the box when the visitors took advantage of a bad pass and Renan Macuglia (Balneario Camboriu, BRAZIL) found the back of the net off a quick pass from Kalvin Semedo (Paris, FRANCE), who was credited with the assist at the 21:04 mark of the first half.
Barton sophomore forward
Gabriel Slemer Lopes (Sao Paulo, BRAZIL) tied the score at one when he scored off his own penalty kick that was saved in the box just over eight minutes later. Lopes now has six goals on the season.
The second half was scoreless while Barton held a 13-9 advantage in shots taken. In goal, Barton freshman
Steingrimur Gunnarsson (Grenivik, ICELAND) made three saves while North Greenville's Michel Weber (Hamburg, GERMANY) stopped four shots on the day.
Both North Greenville and Barton will compete in the 2022 Conference Carolinas Men's Soccer Championship which starts on Wednesday, October 26, with the opening rounds at the higher seeds. Barton is the seventh seed in the league tournament and will be traveling to sixth-seeded Lees-McRae (7-2-7) to play Wednesday beginning at 7:00 p.m., in Banner Elk, N.C. Meanwhile, third-seeded North Greenville hosts the winner on Saturday, October 29, at 7:30 p.m., in a quarterfinal contest.
