BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Barton men's soccer team (6-7-4) saw its season come to an end with a 1-0 loss to Lees-McRae (8-2-7) in the First Round of the 2022 Conference Carolinas Championship Wednesday evening at Tate Field.
The Bobcats scored the lone goal of the match when Fletcher Dyson (Aylsham, Norfolk, ENGLAND) found the back of the net for his team-leading 10th goal of the year off a free kick in the 82nd minute.
Lees-McRae held a 13-12 edge in shots taken while goalkeeper Joshua Garvilla (St. Charles, Mo.) earned his fourth save of the year after stopping one shot. Barton freshman
Steingrimur Gunnarsson (Grenivik, ICELAND) suffered the loss in goal despite five saves. The two teams tied one-all on Saturday, October 8, at the Bulldogs Athletic Complex.
Lees-Rae, the sixth seed in the tournament, will now advance to the quarterfinal round to take on third-seeded North Greenville (8-5-3) in Tigerville, S.C., on Saturday beginning at 7:30 p.m. Barton was the seventh seed in the tournament.
