Barton women’s soccer can’t hold down UNC Pembroke in road setback

PEMBROKE, N.C. – The Barton women's soccer team (5-6-2, 5-4-2) suffered a 5-0 road setback to UNC Pembroke (13-2-1, 9-1-1) Tuesday evening in a Conference Carolinas match at Lumbee River EMC Stadium.

The Braves' Eugenie Amidou (Montreal, CANADA) scored just 50 seconds into the match off a corner kick and added an assist later in the contest while Anna Grossheim (Garner, N.C.) added two goals as the Braves stayed in contention for the league regular season crown.  Grossheim has a team-leading 10 goals on the season.

UNC Pembroke, who is a half-match out of first place in the league standings, held a 20-8 advantage in shots taken including 11-0 edge in the first half while Chiara Coppin (Monroe, N.C.) and Anna Bass (Edenton, N.C.) combined for the shutout in goal.  Bass totaled six second-half saves.

Barton senior goalkeeper Rachel Cox (Wilson, N.C.) totaled four saves but took the loss for the visitors.

Barton looks to bounce back on Saturday when the Bulldogs host first-place North Greenville on Senior Day in a conference match beginning at Noon while UNC Pembroke travels to Central, S.C., to take on Southern Wesleyan Saturday at Noon as well.
