FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. – The Barton women's soccer team (5-5-2, 5-3-2) came up just short to Emmanuel (7-8-1, 6-5), 3-2, in a key Conference Carolinas match with regards to standings Saturday afternoon at the Stephen Lee Complex.
The Lions' Carina Widauer (Langkampfen, AUSTRALIA) broke a one-all tie with the match-winner just five minutes after halftime as Emmanuel was able to win despite Barton's 21-9 advantage in shots taken.

Kassie Krul (Rockport, Maine) scored her team-leading sixth goal of the year just 5:07 into the contest while senior midfielder
Hailey Russell (Jacksonville, N.C.) cut a 3-1 deficit in half after finding the back of the net in the 76th minute but the Lions were able to hold on for the win. Russell has four goals on the season.
Emmanuel's Hannah Thompson (Bogart, Georgia) came up big for the home team as she stopped 11 shots in goal while senior goalkeeper
Rachel Cox (Wilson, N.C.) made four saves but took the setback for Barton. The Bulldogs also lost for the first time in their last five contests.
Barton looks to bounce back on Tuesday when the Bulldogs travel to Pembroke, N.C., to take on UNC Pembroke at 7:00 p.m., while Emmanuel hosts Belmont Abbey next Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
