WILSON, N.C. – The Barton women's soccer team (5-4-2, 5-2-2) scored two late goals in a furious rally to salvage a 2-2 tie with Chowan (4-7-2, 4-3-2) Tuesday evening in a Conference Carolinas match at Truist Stadium and Electric Supply Company Field.
Barton senior forward
Kassie Krul (Rockport, Maine) and freshman forward
Corinne Denham (Greenville, N.C.) both scored in the last two minutes as the Bulldogs shook off the two-goal deficit to force a tie and stay unbeaten in their last four matches at 2-0-2.
Denham headed the ball into the net off a long pass from sophomore midfielder
Cambria Oldham (Southport, N.C.) in the 72nd minute before Krul launched a shot from about 30 yards out over the outstretched hands of the Hawks' keeper with just under five minutes left to help the Bulldogs avoid losing the home match.
Both players have a team-tying five goals on the year while Denham has scored in four straight matches.
Chowan's Regan Jackson (Holly Springs, N.C.) and Lillian DeLucca (Havelock, N.C.) both scored for the Hawks with Jackson's fifth goal of the season coming just eight minutes into the contest. In goal, Barton senior
Rachel Cox (Wilson, N.C.) made five saves while Kirsten Peterson (Medway, Mass.) was credited with the save for the visitors after coming in relief late in the contest.
