Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Barton men’s basketball team falls to Emmanuel, 96-82, on the road

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. – The Barton men's basketball team (5-9, 3-7) suffered a 96-82 setback to Emmanuel (Ga.) (9-5, 8-2) in a Conference Carolinas game Saturday afternoon at the Shaw Athletic Center.

The Lions, still in the hunt for the league regular season title, snapped a three-game losing streak in the process.  Emmanuel was led by All-American K.J. Jones (Atlanta, Ga.) with 26 points while the Lions won over the Bulldogs thanks to their performance at the charity stripe, connecting on 32-of-41 attempts.

Jones went 15-of-18 from the free throw line and Jayvion Rucker (Gainesville, Ga.) tallied a double-double – 15 points and 15 rebounds – in the victory for the home team.

Barton was led by sophomore guard Donaven Hairston (Atlanta, Ga.) with a game-high 25 points and sophomore forward Trevon Spencer (Columbia, N.C.) added 13 points in the losing effort.

The Lions were also fueled by 10 treys and shot 62 percent (16-of-26) from the field in the second half as the Lions scored 57 points after intermission to pull away from the Bulldogs.  Emmanuel held a 39-31 advantage at halftime.

Barton returns home to take on Erskine on Monday beginning at 7:00 p.m., in a Conference Carolinas game at Wilson Gymnasium while Emmanuel hosts Belmont Abbey Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
