WILSON, N.C. – The Barton men's basketball team (6-9, 4-7) returned home after a five-game road stand to down Erskine (2-15, 2-11), 83-71, Monday evening in a Conference Carolinas game at Wilson Gymnasium.
Four Bulldogs scored in double figures – led by sophomore forward
Trevon Spencer (Columbia, N.C.) with a season-high 23 points – as Barton rallied from an early 17-6 deficit to power by Erskine for its second win over the Flying Fleet in four days.
Sophomore guards Malik Byrant (Fort Mill, S.C.) and
Donaven Hairston (Atlanta, Ga.) added 19 and 18 points, respectively, while redshirt freshman guard
Marcus Boykin (Clinton, N.C.) neared a triple-double – 13 points, 17 rebounds and eight assists – as the Bulldogs forced the Flying Fleet into 17 turnovers which led to 22 points for the home squad.
Erskine was led by Jaylen Prioleau (Charlotte, N.C.) with 16 points and Tyrell Oglesby (Inman, S.C.) added 15 points but the Flying Fleet hit just four-of-20 (20 percent) from behind the three-point line as the visitors suffered their 10th loss in their last 11 contests.
With the score tied at 39 at the 18:40 mark of the second half, the Bulldogs put together a 14-0 run capped off by a pair of free throws from Hairston and never looked back in the win.
The Barton men's basketball team is back in action Wednesday at home against league-rival Mount Olive beginning at 7:00 p.m., while Erskine takes on King in Bristol, Tenn., on Wednesday starting at 7:00 p.m., as well.
