DUE WEST, S.C. – The Barton men's basketball team (5-8, 3-6) saw its four-game losing streak come to an end with a rousing 92-73 win over Erskine (2-14, 2-10) Friday evening in a Conference Carolinas game at Belk Arena.
Barton sophomore guard
Malik Bryant (Fort Mill, S.C.) scored 32 points for the second straight contest – a game-high – while redshirt freshman guard
Marcus Boykin (Clinton, N.C.) added 19 points and 12 rebounds as the Bulldogs hit 26-of-29 from the charity stripe to power their way to the win.
Bryant, who leads the team in scoring at 18.9 points per game, was 10-of-12 from the free throw line while Boykin hit 10-of-11 attempts from the charity stripe in the victory.
Four players scored in double figures for the Flying Fleet – led by De'Lanyc Shuler (Kannapolis, N.C.) with 16 points – despite the loss.
Erskine remained in striking distance and trailed by just seven points at 70-63 with just over nine minutes left but Barton took control with an 11-2 run to put the contest out of reach capped off by a pair of free throws from Boykin. Sophomore guard
Donaven Hairston (Atlanta, Ga.) added 16 points for the visitors.
Barton turns around and plays Emmanuel (Ga.) on Saturday at 4:00 p.m., in Franklin Springs, Ga., in a conference game while Erskine travels to Bristol, Tenn., to take on King (Tenn.) on Wednesday beginning at 7:00 p.m.
