ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. – The Barton men's soccer team (4-2) stepped out of league play and beat North Carolina Wesleyan (2-5-2), 1-0, Wednesday afternoon at Scalf Field.
The lone goal of the match came at the 68:43 mark of the second half when sophomore midfielder
Kevin Mendoza (Wilson, N.C.) found the back of the net for his first goal of the year.
Senior midfielder
Luis Hernandez Velasco (Guadarrama, SPAIN) was credited with the assist for the Bulldogs. Hernandez Velasco leads the team in goals (five), assists (two) and total points (12) so far this season.
Barton held a decisive edge in shots taken, 19-2, while junior goalkeeper
Jacob Randolph (Metairie, La.) earned the shutout victory. Randolph was credited with one save and now has three shutouts on the year.
North Carolina Wesleyan's goalkeeper, Fred Rogers (High Wycombe, UNITED KINGDOM), suffered the loss despite stopping eight shots and allowing just one score.
Barton returns to Conference Carolinas play on Sunday when the Bulldogs host King (Tenn.) beginning at 1:30 p.m., while North Carolina Wesleyan hosts Averett Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
