Barton men’s soccer rolls to 5-0 league victory over Southern Wesleyan

CENTRAL, S.C. – The Barton men's soccer team (3-2, 3-0) remained undefeated in Conference Carolinas play with a dominant, 5-0 victory over Southern Wesleyan (1-5, 1-3) Saturday afternoon at Childs Field.

Barton senior midfielder Luis Hernandez Velasco (Guadarrama, SPAIN) and junior forward Immanuel Akpeme (Richmond, Va.) both scored twice as the Bulldogs cruised to the easy victory.  Velasco opened the scoring with two goals in the first eight minutes of the contest and has now scored in four straight matches.

The Bulldogs held a 2-0 advantage at halftime before freshman forward Magnus Mikkelsen (Vinstra, NORWAY) put the contest away with his first goal in his Barton career in the 51st minute.  Akpeme's goals rounded out the scoring for the Bulldogs, who held a 21-8 advantage in shots taken.

In goal, Barton junior Jacob Randolph (Metairie, La.) stopped four shots and earned the win while Southern Wesleyan's Will Hughes (Fairport, N.Y.) suffered the loss.  Hughes totaled three saves.

Barton travels to Rocky Mount, N.C., to face North Carolina Wesleyan on Wednesday beginning at 4:00 p.m., while Southern Wesleyan faces Carolina University on Thursday at 6:00 p.m., in Winston-Salem, N.C.
