WILSON, N.C. – The Barton women's volleyball team (3-3, 0-1) opened Conference Carolinas play with a 3-0 loss to Francis Marion (5-8, 1-0) Wednesday evening at Wilson Gymnasium.
The Patriots won by scores of 25-21, 25-22 and 25-22 and held off a furious late rally by the Bulldogs in the third and final set to complete the sweep.
Francis Marion was led by Lexi Albright (Easley, S.C.) and Iyania Thigpen (Chicago, Ill.) with nine and eight kills, respectively, while Naina Ivanova (Sofia, BULGARIA) added 27 assists in the win. The Patriots totaled 12 service aces in the victory as well.
For Barton, junior outside hitter
Allison Gambill (Taylorsville, N.C.) finished with a team-high 12 kills and senior setter
Sarah Kirk (Pearland, Texas) totaled 22 assists and five digs in the setback.
Barton hits the road to take on UNC Pembroke on Tuesday, September 28, at 6:00 p.m., in a league match while Francis Marion hosts Mount Olive on Friday beginning at 6:00 p.m.
