WILSON, N.C. – The Barton women's volleyball team (1-0) started the year on a high note with a 3-0 win over Shaw (0-1) Thursday evening at Wilson Gymnasium. The Bulldogs won by scores of 25-14, 26-24 and 27-25.
Barton was led by junior outside hitter
Allison Gambill (Hickory, N.C.) with 15 kills while senior setter
Sarah Kirk (Pearland, Texas) added a double-double – 26 assists and 13 digs – as the Bulldogs limited the Bears to a .045 hitting percentage and pulled out close wins in the second and third sets to take the victory.
Shaw was led by Kamille Patrick (Conway, S.C.) with 12 kills while Breelyn Clark (Garner, N.C.) added 22 assists in the setback. The Bears were also hurt by 16 service errors in the loss.
Barton next travels to Fort Lauderdale, Fla., to take on Barry (1:00 p.m.) and Millersville (Pa.) (4:00 p.m.) in the Nova Southeastern Shark Invitational on Friday while Shaw faces West Virginia State (2:00 p.m.) and Saint Augustine's (6:00 p.m.) on Tuesday in Raleigh, N.C., on SAU's campus.
