FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Barton women's volleyball team (2-1) split its first two matches Friday at the Nova Southeastern University Shark Invitational at Rick Case Arena, falling to Barry by a 3-0 score before rallying to win its nightcap over Millersville (Pa.), 3-1.

The Buccaneers swept the Bulldogs by scores of 25-19, 25-14 and 25-13. Barry was led by Djuly Schmorantz (Rio Grande Do Sul, BRAZIL) with 12 kills while the Bucs hit .402 for the match in the triumph.

Allison Gambill (Hickory, N.C.) finished with five kills while senior setter
Sarah Kirk (Pearland, Texas) added a double-double – 10 assists and 10 digs – but the Bulldogs were limited to a negative 0.026 hitting percentage in the setback.

The Bulldogs rallied to split their two contests on the day by downing the Marauders by scores of 26-24, 25-21, 20-25 and 25-17 in the second match.
Gambill, a First-Team All-Conference Carolinas honoree last spring, bounced back with 20 kills and Kirk added another double-double – 35 assists and 13 digs – in the win for the Bulldogs. Barton sophomore right side hitter
Caroline Schoonover (Lutz, Fla.) finished with 13 kills in the victory as well.
Millersville was led by Kylie Airesman (Hickory, Pa.) with 14 kills but the Marauders hit just .100 for the match in the loss.
Barton takes on Dominican (N.Y.) (9:30 a.m.) and Nova Southeastern (6:00 p.m.) Saturday on the final day of invitational.
