Barton men’s soccer picks up shutout road victory, 1-0 over Belmont Abbey

BELMONT, N.C. – The Barton men's soccer team (2-1, 2-0) made it two victories in a row with a 1-0 shutout win over Belmont Abbey (0-4, 0-1) Saturday evening in a Conference Carolinas match at Alumni Field.

Barton senior forward Luis Hernandez Velasco (Guadarrama, SPAIN) scored the lone goal of the match on a penalty kick at the 19:59 mark of the first half.

Velasco scored for the second straight match while the Crusaders remained winless on the season despite holding a 13-7 advantage in shots taken in the setback.

In goal, Barton junior goalkeeper Jacob Randolph (Metairie, La.) earned his second consecutive shutout victory after stopping five shots on the night.  Randolph, an all-league honoree last spring, has seven career shutouts as a Bulldog.  Belmont Abbey's Ben Knust (Omaha, Neb.) suffered the loss in goal despite allowing just one score to go along with one save.

Barton returns home to face Lenoir-Rhyne on Wednesday evening beginning at 6:00 p.m., while Belmont Abbey hosts King (Tenn.) in a league match Tuesday night starting at 7:00 p.m.
