GREENWOOD, S.C. – The Barton College football team (1-1) won its first game since the reestablishment of the program Saturday afternoon, 38-25 over Erskine (0-2) at J.W. Babb Stadium. The Bulldogs are playing their first full season since 1950 after an abbreviated slate last spring.
Barton rushed for 316 yards including a 229-yard, one-touchdown performance from redshirt freshman running back
Jordan Terrell (Ramseur, N.C.) as the visitors avenged a 30-28 setback last February in both teams' first-ever game.
Bulldogs redshirt freshman quarterback
Jaquan Lynch (Rocky Mount, N.C.) added 220 total yards – 134 through the air and 86 on the ground – as Barton rolled up 450 yards of total offense in the victory.
In the second half, Lynch ran for a 74-yard touchdown in the third quarter and helped ice the contest with a 60-yard touchdown pass to redshirt freshman wideout
Kameron Johnson (Rocky Mount, N.C.) with 13:15 left in the final stanza in the triumph. Lynch totaled four touchdowns: three on the ground and one through the air.
On defense, Barton redshirt freshman
Shane Perry (Apex, N.C.) totaled nine tackles while redshirt freshman
Toney Black (Harrisburg, N.C.) had three-and-a-half of the Bulldogs' seven sacks in the win.
For Erskine, Craig Pender (Barnwell, S.C.) passed for 243 yards and a score to go along with two rushing touchdowns but was picked off twice in the losing effort. The Flying Fleet's Senika McKie (Columbia, S.C.) caught 11 passes for 124 yards in the setback.
Barton travels to Salisbury, N.C., to face Catawba on Saturday, September 18, at 1:00 p.m., while Erskine faces Chowan in Murfreesboro, N.C., next Saturday beginning at 1:00 p.m., as well.
