WILSON, N.C. – The Barton women's volleyball team (4-9, 4-5) suffered a setback to rival Mount Olive (6-3, 6-3), 3-0, Tuesday evening on Senior Night in Conference Carolinas action in the regular season finale at Wilson Gymnasium.
The Trojans won by scores of 25-18, 25-17 and 25-23 in the first meeting between the two schools this year.
Three players – Starr Sergent (Mililani, Hawai'i), Ele'sia Williams (Raleigh, N.C.) and Amara Eziakonwa (Tampa, Fla.) – all totaled six kills to lead the Trojans to the win.
Barton was led by senior outside hitter
Kaytlin Elkins (Hope Mills, N.C.) with 13 kills while junior setter
Sarah Kirk (Pearland, Texas) added a double-double – 28 assists and 14 digs – in the setback. Barton, however, hit just 0.057 for the contest in seeing its three-match winning streak snapped.
Barton will be the sixth seed in the Spring 2021 Conference Carolinas Women's Volleyball Championship and will face third-seeded Emmanuel (Ga.) in Franklin Springs, Ga., on Saturday beginning at Noon in the opening round while fourth-seeded Mount Olive will host fifth-seeded Converse on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
