ROYSTON, Ga. – The Barton women's volleyball team (5-9) upset Emmanuel (Ga.) (10-5), 3-0, in the Pool Play round of the Spring 2021 Conference Carolinas Championship Saturday afternoon at the Shaw Athletic Center.
The Bulldogs, the sixth seed in the tournament, defeated the third-seeded Lions by scores of 25-23, 25-22 and 25-17 and will now travel to Bristol, Tenn., to play in the semifinals on Saturday evening at 7:30 p.m., on the campus of King University.
Barton, who lost to Emmanuel twice in the regular season, was led by senior outside hitter
Kaytlin Elkins (Hope Mills, N.C.) with 19 kills while junior setter
Sarah Kirk (Pearland, Texas) added a double-double – 32 assists and 12 digs – in the win. In addition, freshman setter
Madison Greene (Angier, N.C.) totaled 18 digs and three services for the visitors.
The Bulldogs limited the Lions to a 0.079 hitting percentage in winning for the fourth time in the last five contests. Emmanuel was led by Mia Cotton (Tallahassee, Fla.) with 10 kills in the setback.
