WILSON, N.C. – The Barton baseball team (15-15, 14-10) celebrated Senior Day in style with a Conference Carolinas doubleheader sweep of Southern Wesleyan (6-24, 6-22), 3-2 and 11-9, Saturday afternoon at Nixon Field.
Game One – Barton 3, Southern Wesleyan 2
Barton sophomore second baseman
Tyler Robinson (Beaver Falls, Pa.) hit a walk-off RBI single – scoring senior outfielder
Trevor Edior (Los Angeles, Calif.) – with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift the Bulldogs to the win. Edior finished with three hits and an RBI to lead Barton to the victory.
Junior designated hitter
Peyton Creech (Zebulon, N.C.) added two hits and an RBI double while senior
Clay Walters (Wake Forest, N.C.) (2-1) recorded the final four outs to pick up the win for the Bulldogs.
For Southern Wesleyan, Ty King Richards (Snellville, Ga.) and Sean Sutay (Bluffton, S.C.) drove in runs in the sixth inning to tie the score at two before Robinson's heroics while Aaron Bennett (Helen, Ga.) (0-5) was tagged with the loss.
Game Two – Barton 11, Southern Wesleyan 9
Barton junior outfielder
Travious Ford (Greenville, N.C.) hit a walk-off three-run home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to cap a six-run frame as the Bulldogs rallied from a 9-5 deficit to complete the sweep. Ford finished with four RBI in the win.
Barton freshman third baseman
Luke Pritchett (Greensboro, N.C.) added a two-run home run and both drove in four runs as well while freshman
Zachary Aldridge (Kinston, N.C.) (1-0) retired the final five batters to earn the win.
Southern Wesleyan's Chance Fogel (Sebastian, Fla.) hit a two-run home run and Josh Galloway (Lugoff, S.C.) drove in three runs in the losing effort. Bennett (0-6) was tagged with the loss in relief for the Warriors.
Barton hits the road to face Virginia State on Tuesday beginning at 3:00 p.m., in Petersburg, Va., while Southern Wesleyan hosts Anderson on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m.
