WILSON, N.C. – The Barton College baseball team (16-15, 15-10) won a thriller over No. 21 North Greenville (26-10, 20-9), 10-9, in Conference Carolinas action Thursday afternoon at Nixon Field.
For the second straight game, the Bulldogs received a walk-off, game-winning hit from senior outfielder
Travious Ford (Greenville, N.C.). Trailing by a 9-8 score with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning, Ford connected on a two-run single to lift the Bulldogs to their fourth straight victory. Barton was playing its first game in nearly two weeks.
Ford finished with two hits and three runs batted in while junior designated hitter
Peyton Creech (Zebulon, N.C.) and freshman third baseman
Luke Pritchett (Greensboro, N.C.) both added three hits for the Bulldogs, who rallied from a 5-0 deficit to pull out the improbable victory.
North Greenville, the second-place team in the current league standings, was led by Ethan Stringer (Independence, Ky.) with three hits and two runs batted in including a two-run triple despite the setback.
On the mound, Barton junior
Colby Warren (Roanoke Rapids, N.C.) improved to 2-0 on the year after pitching a scoreless ninth inning while North Greenville's Tristen Hudson (Salem, N.C.) fell to 0-2 after taking the loss.
The two teams will play a doubleheader on Friday beginning at Noon at Nixon Field.
