MURFREESBORO, N.C. - The Barton men's lacrosse team (4-1, 1-0) opened Conference Carolinas play Saturday evening with a 16-11 triumph over Chowan (1-4, 0-1) at Garrison Stadium.
Barton was led by senior midfielder
Bodin Nichols (Brainerd, Minn.) with three goals and two assists as the Bulldogs scored five straight times in the opening stanza after spotting the home team the opening goal to take control of the match.
Four players added two goals as well for the Bulldogs – including two goals and two assists from junior midfielder
Mark Crawford (Chesapeake, Md.) – as Barton won its third straight game. The Bulldogs' freshman midfielder Jacob Schwartz (Land O'Lakes, Fla.) was credited with the match-winner.
Barton held close advantages in both shots taken (43-40) and ground balls (54-50) while junior goalkeeper
Trevor Witholt (Murrieta, Calif.) earned the victory on goal after stopping eight shots in the first half.
Chowan was led by Eric George (Stony Plain, Alberta, CANADA) and Jackson Downs (Olney, Md.) with three goals and two assists each but the Hawks lost their second straight match. Chowan's Nathan Woodhill (Hewitt, Texas) made 13 saves but suffered the loss in goal.
Barton hosts Montevallo (Ala.) on Friday at the Electric Supply Company Field and Truist Stadium beginning at Noon while Chowan hosts Montevallo on Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 p.m.
